Growth in Camping Incidence As the travel industry rebounds from the disruptions of 2020 and 2021, camping continues to be a popular recreation option despite a slight drop in the number of households who identify as campers. In 2021, 93.8 million households identified as campers, compared to 92 million in 2022. This minor drop is likely closely tied to the set of travelers who started camping in the past couple of years but are now returning to previous travel habits such as hotel stays or international trips.
