U.S. Camping Households
Among the households who actively took a camping trip in 2022,
camping still brought in about 1.5 million additional households in
2022, which is a stabilization compared to the past three years.
Growth in Camping Incidence
As the travel industry rebounds from the disruptions of 2020 and
2021, camping continues to be a popular recreation option despite
a slight drop in the number of households who identify as campers.
In 2021, 93.8 million households identified as campers, compared
to 92 million in 2022. This minor drop is likely closely tied to the set
of travelers who started camping in the past couple of years but
are now returning to previous travel habits such as hotel stays or
international trips.
